The definitive database for essential oils
The most accurate tool on the market for chemical composition and physicochemical properties of aromatic extracts, essential oils and vegetable oils.
Verified data of oils analyzed and certified by Chromessence®.
Real-time connection to our internal database
The average results of thousands of analyses are uploaded every day in each of the reports.
Only authenticated essential oils
Chromessence tests oils daily, and only those of certified purity are loaded into the tool.
A guide to standardization
ISO standards, Pharmacopoeia and historical data for each standardized oil are used to establish the specifications in the application. Retention indices are also available for each substance to assist analysts in compound identification.
Also Vegetable Oils
Fatty acid profiles, organoleptic and physicochemical properties.
Safety data according to IFRA standards
To assist cosmetic formulators in the dosage of their natural oils.
Distribution by biological activities and chemical families
All biological activities are based on meta-analyses, reviews, in vivo and in vitro studies, and are verified by a specialist in phytotherapy.
How does ChromDB work?

1. Start searching for OIL
Find your essential or vegetable oil by trade name, botanical name, botanical family, CAS number.
2. Start searching by SUBSTANCE
Combined search by name, CAS number, Chemical family, Cosmetic restriction and Biological activity and see which oils contain the filtered substances, with option to filter also by %.
3. See the data of each REPORT
Sort by each field, check statistics, etc. Open additional report to examine physicochemical data, chiral ratios, etc.

ChromDB Frequently asked questions

No, the data is based on the average percentage of each substance for all single oil analyses that have been uploaded to the platform.
They come from our daily activity as an essential oil analysis and R&D laboratory. Each characterization analysis that has passed purity and quality control is uploaded to CHROM-DB.
Yes, new lots are continually being uploaded for averaging, new oils are being added, IFRA restrictions are being updated, etc.
Many of the oils analyzed by ChromEssence come from distillers, and both these and those analyzed from intermediates undergo strict quality and purity control.
Each report is internally linked to several analyses of different lots and/or suppliers, each with a different identification number. Those interested in the traceability of a specific oil can make an inquiry through our contact page.
Not all of them. There are relatively new oils in the industry that are still in the process of standardization. See our post on the standardization of essential oils.
Many of the specifications are established considering a compendium between international standards and our own statistical data. Others are established using only our historical data, due to the lack of standards. In addition, there may be oils without specifications (non-standardized oils).
Please check out our section on essential oil analysis.
Our specialist in phytotherapy compiles the literature to assign activity to each of the substances. All biological activities are based on meta-analyses, reviews and in-vivo and in-vitro studies. The activity of the oil is calculated from its chemical composition. Please note that the synergistic effect between substances has not been taken into account in this distribution.
In some cases, the oil marketed in the industry is a mixture of various geographical origins or chemotypes.

Only some rare unknown (usually trace) or low volatile (heavy compounds) compounds, such as certain furocoumarins, are not present in the reports. Essential oils are mostly composed of volatile substances but there are cases where the percentage of volatile substances may be higher, as in some absolutes.
